Tech giant Amazon is reportedly working on a cloud based game streaming platform code named “Project Tempo”, similar to Microsoft with Project xCloud, Google’s Stadia and Nvidia’s GeForce Now.

Amazon has been working on two video games since 2014, a big budget sci-fi shooter game called Crucible and a multiplayer online game called New World. Amazon is also reportedly working to launch its long-rumored cloud gaming service code-named Project Tempo, reports The New York Times.

“We have been working for a while, but it takes a long time to make games, and we’re bringing a lot of Amazon practices to making games,” said Mike Frazzini, Amazon’s vice president for game services and studios.

Amazon will have to compete with software giants Microsoft and Google which already have their feet planted in the cloud gaming space, Microsoft with Project xCloud and Google with Stadia. The cloud based games are part of an investment into cloud gaming worth millions of dollars.

Retail Giant may launch an early version of its cloud based gaming platform this year if things are in order in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
