Where to Find Free Background Music for Your Videos

Free Background Music

Do you need background music for your YouTube channel?

If so, you’re not alone. A lot of video makers look online for templates that are easy to customize when they can’t find something specific to their niche on YouTube itself.

Luckily, there are tons of websites out there where you can find free background music to use in your videos.

However, some are more useful than others.

But most are at least worth checking out before you give up and pay for the rights to that song you really want to use but can’t afford because it’s just too expensive…

Journey to Find Free Background Music

This guide on where to find free background music for your videos can help you find the resources you need to get started in no time!

You’ll discover everything from royalty-free music sites that offer millions of songs for free to YouTube tutorials on how to make your own music from scratch.

This way, you’ll never be without great background music again!

The Best Sites to Use: YouTube, SoundCloud and Bensound:

This is a list of sites that I recommend checking out if you need free background music for your videos.

While some sites have restrictions on their free services (like branding), others are more lenient.

For example, both YouTube and SoundCloud allow you to use their tracks without limitations as long as you are making non-commercial videos or using them for non-profit purposes.

To use a track from YouTube or SoundCloud in your video, all you need to do is go to their respective websites and use their track search tool.

You can also import tracks directly into programs like Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas Pro, and Final Cut Pro X using these sites as well!

For Bensound’s tracks, you can head over to their website straight away and download whatever music you want!

Legally Downloading Songs

If you’re looking for free, legal music, you should start with sites like SoundCloud, where users can upload their own tracks and distribute them legally.

A site like Jamendo is another option.

Although these sites have limitations (for example, they only allow musicians in specific countries to post their work), they are safe havens if you’re looking for free background music.

If you’re a music producer, releasing your tracks on these platforms is another way to get your music in front of new audiences.

You might even make some money from ad revenue, so long as you have an artist account and can verify that you are a musician with samples of your work.

You can also find free background music by recording and editing your own tracks. This is a great way to establish an original sound that fits with your brand, but it’s also time-consuming.

Legally Recording Audio

If you have a quality recording device, such as a digital recorder or smartphone with high-quality audio capabilities, there are lots of ways to legally use that audio in your videos.

Simply recording ambient noise can make an interesting soundtrack.

You can record a conversation with someone and upload it without their permission; however, you should always get permission first.

Use a Video Maker Online for Music & Editing!

One of my favorite things about making videos is that you can use whatever you want as background music.

When I first started out, though, I had a hard time finding free music that was high quality enough. It was either a headache to download or it just didn’t sound right.

Luckily, there are quite a few video makers online that let you use their library of music with one click.

Here are my top 3 favorites:

Promo’s Video Maker Online:

If you want an easy-to-use interface with lots of free music and free animations, Promo’s online video maker is a good choice.

They even have a feature that allows you to add in your own audio, so if you already have songs or voiceovers recorded, they can make it easier than ever!

Animoto’s Video Maker Online Editor:

I just recently discovered Animoto’s video maker online editor and couldn’t believe how much functionality was packed into one simple tool.

Not only can you choose from an enormous library of free music, but you can also layer on effects, images, graphics, text.

Everything you need to create a professional-looking video that fits your brand!

Viddy’s Video Maker Online:

Another great video maker online is Viddy.

They make it easy with their vast library of free music, easy-to-use interface, and pre-made animations that you can layer on top of your background.

You also have a ton of control over how things look and sound.

If you want more flexibility in customizing your music, I would start here!

Purchasing Royalty-Free Background Soundtracks

The royalty-free background soundtrack is a professionally recorded track that you can purchase and use without having to pay any royalties.

A lot of video creators, like those who make YouTube videos, find royalty-free soundtracks helpful in creating quality videos, especially when they need background music.

Final Thoughts

When choosing free music to place in the background of your video, the best way to go about it is by using a video maker online. This way you kill two birds with one stone.

First, when you use an online video maker you’re saving money because these usually offer some version of trial or paid plans, but most won’t cost much at all.

Second, when you use them they come with built-in editing software and effects that will help spruce up your video if need be.

The other benefit of doing it all through a single website is there isn’t much overhead because most websites allow for user-created profiles and those are generally easy to navigate.
