Vue 3

Vuejs, many of you must already seem to have evangelized with the open-source

javascript framework. And why not since this one is preferable for developing single-page applications and user interfaces. Since the web development field is transforming to a great extent, we are able to witness the newest and latest technologies being released every now and then. Vue.js 3 is something we are about to unveil in the following post. So read away!

It may quite interest you to know that Facebook, Netflix, Alibaba, BMW, Upwork, and Grammarly are some of the top companies using Vue.js for ages. Are you still wondering why?

All About Vuejs

One of the obvious things you need to know about Vuejs is that this one is a progressive framework that is highly preferable for building user interfaces. Developed by Evan You, the framework comprises 200,000 stars and this is not going to slow down any time soon. Now you must be wondering why Vue is gaining momentum a lot lately?

  • First, it is a framework that is not spacious
  • Vue is pretty easy to learn and understand
  • It offers high-end scalability and flexibility
  • Supports Two-way communication
  • Vue is a progressive framework which is inspired by Angular and React
  • It comprises of Model-View-View-Model architecture
  • Vue comprises of large and active community
  • Vue enables developers to create comprehensive documentation
  • It features virtual DOM leading to high performance
  • Vue can be used for developing native apps for both Android and iOS
  • The framework enables developers to render data declaratively to the document object model

One of the attention-grabbing aspects of the Vue framework is Vue 3. Though this was released in the year 2020, however, it still seems to be pretty much in vogue due to its wide range of features and functionalities. Yes, further we will be discussing some of the most interesting features available in Vue 3. So brace yourself and keep reading!

The Rise of Vue 3

There is no denying the fact that Vue 3 comes with a wide range of features which certainly will be discussed further. One of the obvious benefits is that this one is pretty backwards-compatible with Vue 2. In addition, the experts working on the framework seemed to have given it an unusual name – manga and anime titles. Vue 3’s name is based on the popular shonen series One-piece. Whereas the older ones are based on Dragon Ball, Ghost in the Shell, Hunter X Hunter, Initial D or JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Is the author Evan You behind all this? Absolutely correct! Not many of you knew the fact that Evan is a huge fan of Manga and that’s how he came up with these titles. Another interesting aspect of this version is that it was quite a wait! Yes, initially Vue 3 was supposed to be released on September 21st and then the alpha version was released and then the creators took time in enhancing the core mechanisms. After spending two years day and night, it’s showtime! Vue 3 is quite impressive. Don’t forget to read about the common mistakes React Developers make and avoid them in advance.

Astounding Features in Vue 3

1.   Composition API

One of the most important features offered by Vue js is that it offers a composition API. Mainly used against the Vue Options API, the composition API is designed keeping Typescript support in mind. Also, with this feature, the chances of code reusability, maintenance, and amalgamation of functionality seem to have increased.

So how is the composition API any different from the option API? Well, earlier using option API in a single component could get extremely messy as the developer tries to incorporate different data, methods, props, components, computed values and a lot more! Here each section is used to comprise of multiple sections of features. Fortunately, with composition API that’s certainly not the case anymore! With the incorporation of composition API, the functionality seems to have become more maintainable and readable. Apart from this, these composition functions can be used elsewhere. So you no longer have to worry about your setup method being bloated.

2. Multiple root elements (template syntax)

Another interesting feature found in Vue 3 is multiple root elements. Earlier, if you already have been familiar with Vue 2 then you must have known that the template tag could take only one root element. It doesn’t matter whether you begin with two tags or one, you were compelled to close it to get things started! As a result, Vue developers began to change the CSS code. With the rise of Vue 3, all these issues were completely resolved! Yes, there is no need for any root element.

3. Scoped Slots

Another interesting feature offered by Vue 3 is scoped slots. As the name implies, these are special types of slots that end up working as reusable templates. Here, data can be easily passed. Apart from this, scoped slots has the potential to address all the downsides of mixins such as it offers instant access at runtime, developers no longer have to look inside the mixin to figure out which properties it does expose and whatnot!

Of course, Vue 2 offered numerous options however, each one had its own limitations. For example, here components were only written after they were organized. Vue 3, on the contrary, enables developers to organize components by logical concerns. And that’s when composition API comes into play! With the help of advanced syntax, developers can write components without much hassle. Here writing less code, easy to build, highly flexible, and great TypeScript support are some core advantages.

4. Multiple v-Models

Another intimidating feature is Multiple V-models. Now I hope you are already familiar with Vue and its previous versions. I am sure you must be knowing what a v-model is? Well, it is a directive to achieve two-way binding on a component. Now imagine a situation where you want to bind and listen to multiple properties. Here is the chance when multiple v-models come to play! The vue3 has the potential to bind any number of v-models to the custom components.

5. Suspense

The next one in line is the suspense feature. The feature offered by Vue enables developers to perform lazy loading components with the suspense component. So what makes the difference here? Well, the suspense component offers some fallback content while the user is waiting for the data.

Other than suspense, Vue 3 offers better reactivity! I am sure you must be well acquainted with the fact that Vue 2 was lacking especially in regards to reactivity but certainly not anymore! In Vue 3, whether you want to add a new item to an array or to an object, deleting an item from the object is possible.

Final Words

Of course, this is not it! Vue 3 offers several other advantages such as global mounting, portals, custom directive API, Experimental state-driven CSS variables, Mixins, fragments, etc. On and all, the future of Vue seems pretty rosy and one shouldn’t take any longer to jump into the Vue bandwagon and create some of the best applications. Again as I mentioned earlier,  Vue 3 is backwards-compatible so you don’t have to worry if you are not okay with the new way of doing things. You can switch back and forth easily.

I hope you found the post worthy. If so please help me in sharing the word among your peers. Good luck!
